When looking for RV insurance you have to be aware that policies will vary in what is included. You will get the standard cover in all policies but you can also get many extras, and all providers put limits on the amount you can claim. These limits will differ between policies so you have to check for the best deal.

The amount of excess you will have to pay will differ between policies and this you have to check. The amount of excess can keep down the cost of the premiums. If you payout more then you can get the policy cheaper, however this is the amount that you would have to pay before the insurance company would payout on your claim. Normally there will also be a limit on the excess for windscreen damage and this is different from the excess overall, so again you have to check this.

As your RV is used as your home away from home then you will be carrying more personal items than you would in a car. Therefore you need to check the level of cover that you would get for your belongings if they were stolen or damaged. You should also be aware that some polices will state a certain amount for a single item so be aware of this and check this level before taking anything of extreme value with you on your trip. Also check to see if such items as awnings and gas bottles are included in the policy as awnings can be very expensive to replace or repair if they become damaged.

You also need to give some thought to how much you are going to be using your RV throughout the year. Sometimes you are able to get RV insurance cheaper if you take out a policy that limits the amount of mileage you are able to do. If you have the freedom to be able to travel when and how often you like, then you should take into account what the mileage is set at and go for a policy that does not restrict you.

If you have a brand new RV then you will want to make sure that coverage is put in for a replacement vehicle if your RV should get stolen within the first year or so. This would also apply to if you are involved in an accident and the repair costs would be over a certain amount. You should also check to see if the insurance policy would cover you having to stay in alternative accommodation if your vehicle is going to be repaired. Insurance companies will include this in the policy up to a certain amount per night and for so long.

Of course these are just some of the many things that you need to look for when taking out RV insurance. You do need to read over the key facts document that should be supplied before you take out the insurance to ensure that you have the cover you need.
