Check caravan cover for suitability
When looking for caravan cover it would be advisable not to take out the policy before you have checked that it is suitable for your needs. We all like to make savings on our insurance but it would be no good taking out the first policy you came across just because the monthly premiums were extremely low. Caravan insurance should be tailored to suit your needs as no two caravan owners will be the same.
One of the things you will need when looking for caravan cover is protection for your personal belongings and everything in the caravan. If for example you were to have a break in and your belongings stolen or there was a fire or accident and your belongings were destroyed then you would claim on the insurance and get money to be able to replace what was lost. Some providers will offer you a policy that would pay out new for old whilst others could take depreciation into account.
If the provider offered you cover that paid out money for you to replace your items as brand new then the premiums would cost more. If you have a brand new caravan with all the mod cons then this would be needed. If you have a second hand model then you might want to save money on the insurance and ensure your policy took depreciation into account.
The cost of your caravan policy will reflect on what you want to do with your caravan and where you want to go and also if you have a static caravan. For instance if you are travelling around Europe then you would need to make sure the policy you were taking out had European cover in it. If you were staying in the UK then you could save money by making sure that it was not included in your protection.
European cover would pay out in the event something happened whilst you were travelling around Europe. For instance, if your caravan was in an accident the policy would pay out towards alternative accommodation if you were unable to stay in your caravan whilst it was being repaired.
One of the ways that you can make savings on the cost of your insurance is to ensure that your caravan is harder to steal. For instance when towing you could install a hitch lock and this would prevent anyone from unhitching your caravan while you were parked. You might install an alarm on the caravan and keep your personal belongings out of sight when you were away from it.
Another way you could save on the monthly premiums for caravan cover is by paying out more in the excess. This is what all providers will ask you to pay in the event that you make a claim. You pay so much towards a claim and then the insurance company pays the rest.
While there is always a minimum amount of excess you would need to pay by offering more you could bring the cost of the premiums down. However bear in mind that if you were to have to claim you do need to find this sum of money in a lump cash sum.
