Check the benefits of cheap campervan cover before buying
We all like to save money on our insurance but when it comes to cheap campervan cover, it is important to know what benefits you are getting for your money. If you were to just choose a policy based on the cost and take the cheapest insurance possible without looking into what is included in the policy, you may be in for a shock if you need to claim.
While campervan insurance comes with some basics in all policies, there are limits set on the amount you are able to claim back on your insurance. For instance, your campervan insurance comes with personal belongings insurance. However, one provider may offer you more than the other may for the same in monthly premiums. Usually your belongings are covered for such as fire and theft whilst in the campervan and this may extend to such as a personal DVD player, sat nav equipment and other small electrical equipment. You may also want to check to find out if accidental damage is included within the cover.
Along with personal effects being covered, your steps and awnings are generally, but not always, covered also. Again, there is a limit as to how much you are able to claim and you may want to check to ensure that a claim may be made if the awning was damaged during a storm. Some providers exclude storm damage from the insurance and if yours does it may be very costly to replace or repair an awning damaged this way.
Windscreens are covered in campervan insurance but you may want to check to find out if you have to pay out an extra amount of excess on them and if so how much that excess is. Excess may also be waived by some insurance providers for repairs to the windscreen.
You may want to find out how much excess you need to pay on any cheap campervan cover you are considering. The premiums may be slightly lower each month but if you have to pay a large amount in excess towards a claim this has to be found out of your own pocket before the insurance provider takes over the rest of the claim.
If you intend travelling around Europe in your campervan it is essential to ensure that European cover is included in your policy. European insurance may often come with breakdown cover and often you are able to claim on the insurance towards a stay in alternative accommodation if your campervan has to be taken for repairs. The insurance policy generally pays out so much per day and up to so many days towards alternative accommodation, so check what the provider of any potentially cheap campervan cover offers.
