Choosing offroad 4 x 4 insurance

If you are a serious offroad 4 x 4 user then you will need to take out insurance that is tailored specifically, so you should be looking with specialist insurance providers for offroad 4 x 4 insurance. If you are driving your 4 x 4 offroad then you would need to be protected against different possibilities than if you are driving on road. With this in mind you should look over any policy you are considering taking on with a fine tooth comb to ensure you know what you are and are not covered for. There are some features which could be considered essential in the cover while others would be great to fall back on if needed.

If you have customised your 4 x 4 then you want to ensure that you could insure your 4 x 4 for agreed values. This means that you have your 4 x 4 valued to find out its true worth and then insure for this much with the provider. If the worst case scenario was then to happen and your vehicle was written off you would be paid the amount you chose as your agreed values. This is one of the features that you might want to consider essential if you have added on many expensive parts.

Speaking of customising and adding on expensive parts you might want to check to find out if the policy included salvage retention rights. If due to the worst case scenario your 4 x 4 was to be involved in an accident and it was written off then you could salvage any extremely expensive parts from the wreck to use again. However you would need to take into account that if the insurance company thought the damage to your 4 x 4 was too extreme then salvage rights might not be given even if they are included in your cover.

You could check to find out what kind of windscreen and window protection was included in the offroad 4 x 4 insurance policy. If you take part in rallies and events then windscreen damage could be classed as essential as there is more chance of damage occurring to the windscreen. Due to this some insurance companies will allow you to insure your windscreen and other windows but they will ask that you pay an additional excess for your windscreen. You would have to check the terms and conditions as some providers could allow you to make a claim for repair to small scratches on your windscreen or windows without having to pay any excess.

If you are taking part in shows and rallies then you should check any offroad 4 x 4 insurance policy you are thinking of taking on to see if it included legal costs. If you were to damage someone’s property then could claim damages through the courts and this is where legal cover would come into its own. Without it you would have to pay these damages and court costs out of your own pocket. Again you would need to check the small print to find out exclusions and limitations as to how much cover might payout.
