Compare motorhome insurance before rushing into a policy
Rushing into taking what might seem to be a bargain when it comes to your motorhome insurance may be a huge mistake. If you have not checked out the features and benefits of the policy carefully, you may be in for a shock and disappointment if you have to make a claim. While the majority of insurance policies do come with the same benefits, the amount you may be entitled to claim, should you need to, may differ drastically.
Different types of insurance
When looking into insuring your motorhome you have the choice of three different types. The most basic of insurance is third party only, which works out to be the cheapest form of insurance. However while this policy might save you money it provides very little cover for you. For instance if you personal belongings were stolen or destroyed they would not fall under the insurance policy and so you may not claim for them. In the middle falls third party fire and theft insurance. This provides the same benefits as third party only, plus would give you some cover for your own motorhome, say if your motorhome or belongings were damaged or destroyed by fire. Finally the dearest option when covering your pride and joy is fully comprehensive, whilst the premiums for this would come at higher cost, it may be well worth that little extra each month. Let us look at what may be included in a fully comprehensive motorhome insurance policy.
Benefits you get in fully comprehensive insurance
You may find accidental damage to your motorhome is covered in your insurance policy. Breakages such as glass in a mirror or TV screen may be included under this.
If you were to cause damage to a third party’s vehicle or property, then you may be taken to court. Legal cover may be included in your insurance policy, up to so much. As costs may mount up if a solicitor is involved, this form of insurance may save you a great deal of money.
As you may be carrying around such equipment as DVD, radio, TV and have sat navigation aboard you may benefit from having these insurance and the majority of fully comprehensive policies may include this. The policy may even extend to personal devices; however, you would need to check in the terms of the insurance policy.
When considering the equipment and belongings in your motorhome you may want to look into what is and is not protected in your motorhome insurance and what the limits might be on them. Usually such as your steps and awnings would be covered, however the provider may impose a limit on them. Any camping equipment may be included in with the insurance policy, again up to a limit. Windscreens, your sunroof and windows might be covered, however, you might be asked to pay extra excess on these.
