There are numerous things that you would have to take into account when you are looking to take out touring insurance. One thing you have to remember is that not all policies offer the same. Some insurance providers will offer more by way of benefits than other insurance providers so you need to compare these very carefully. It is essential that you get the cover for your needs so look for an insurance provider that offers cover which can be tailored to suit you.

One of the first considerations you would have to give when taking out touring insurance is where you plan on touring in your caravan. If you want to take your caravan around Europe then you would want to ensure that you had European insurance in your policy. This would allow you to make a claim on your insurance policy in the event that you were to have an accident or break down whilst in Europe. If you were unable to live in your caravan or motorhome then you could also claim on your policy towards a stay in alternative accommodation. The provider would give you cover for so many days so you would have to check this before taking out your policy as some might offer more than others.

Your touring caravan insurance policy would allow you to cover your belongings and the items in your caravan against loss by theft or fire. You would have to make an inventory of all the belongings in your caravan and this would be the amount that you would insure against and this is the sum of money that you would get back if you should lose everything. Also check to find out if the provider would payout for accidental damage. This would generally include such as glass in TV screens and mirrors.

There are many ways to ensure that you would get the cheapest premiums for your insurance. One of these is to offer to pay out more in excess for the insurance than what the insurance provider is asking for. All insurance providers will include a minimum amount that you would have to payout in the event that a claim had to be made and this is what you have to pay before the insurance company would take over the rest of the claim. By offering to pay more in excess you could shave something off the cost of the insurance but you would have to bear in mind that if you had to claim you would need to find this money out of your own pocket as a lump sum. Also give some thought to the fact that if you should have to make more than one claim in the same year you could lose out on any savings that you had made by way of premiums.

You would have to check the small print of any touring insurance you were considering as there will always be limitations and exclusions. This is where it would tell you what you could not claim for or how much the maximum would be for the payout.
