Tips for choosing green laning insurance

Green lane driving means that you drive your vehicle along any public roads that have an unmetalled surface. You could drive over rough terrains and hills which are uneven and which could pose many risks to the vehicle. Due to this fact if you enjoy taking part in green lane driving then you will have to take out green laning insurance for your vehicle. This is usually only possible with a specialist insurance company, however usually any insurance policy that covers 4x4 offroad driving will cover you for greenlaning.

One way of getting a great deal and a choice of features for green laning insurance would be to join a specialist club. By being a member of such a club you could get a percentage knocked off the cost of the insurance. You would also be able to get good advice from others who enjoy taking part in green lane driving in regards to places to visit and drive and what to look for when considering insurance.

If you are an avid green lane enthusiast who had tailored their car to their specific needs then you would want to ensure that agreed values were included in the protection. Agreed values would mean that you have your car valued and then take out insurance for this amount. If your car was then stolen or damaged beyond repair this would be the sum of money that you would receive back from your policy. Agreed values are essential if you have customised your car and have added many expensive parts to it.

If you use your car for taking part in shows and rallies then you would have to check the features of the cover to find out if liability insurance was included in the policy. As many green lane drivers do take part in rallies this would normally be a necessity as organisers will want you to be insured in case those attending the rally were to get hurt by your car. They would then be able to claim on your insurance for medical and legal costs.

Check to find out what windscreen insurance was included in the policy you were considering. Some providers will ask that you payout an extra amount of excess when green lane driving. Some will also not charge excess for such as making small repairs to windscreens. There could also be a limit set on the amount you could claim up to for windscreen and windows damage so double checking the small print of the policy would be essential.

One way of keeping down the cost of green laning insurance to offer to pay a higher amount of excess than what the insurance provider asks for. All insurance companies will include a minimum amount of excess you would have to pay before they would take over your claim and pay the rest. However you would have to bear in mind that the amount you choose to pay in excess would have to come out of your own pocket in a cash lump sum.
