What to look for in 4x4 off road insurance

If you want to take part in the thrill of off road driving then you need 4x4 off road insurance to ensure that you are driving legally. Insurance that you would take out for a standard car will not provide the cover you need when driving over rough terrain and through wooded areas.

However just as with standard car insurance when looking for 4x4 off road insurance the insurance can differ slightly with providers so you do have to look into the features of a policy. If you go into competition with your car then you would need to ensure that you have cover for this which might include static rally and greenlining protection along with show cover.

A 4x4 insurance policy would cover green lane insurance

Some policies will include show cover just for the odd times when you do show your 4x4 so again checking the terms of the policy is essential before taking it out. You would also need to take into account when considering this that you might travel outside of the UK. If this is so then European cover should be considered essential. Some providers will limit this so always check the small print before taking out the policy.

If you have made a great deal of modifications to your 4x4 then you need to check to find out if agreed values is included in the4x4 off road insurancepolicy you are considering. Agreed values would reflect on the true worth of your vehicle which would be essential if you have modified it a great deal. You would have your 4x4 valued and this would be the sum of money paid back if in the worst case scenario your car was a write off. Without this you could lose a great deal of money.

If you have made alterations to the car then you should also check to find out if you would have salvage retention options if the car was written off. Salvage retention would allow you to buy back the wreckage of the car and take off parts to be used again. However in some cases the 4x4 may be damaged beyond salvage and if this happens you would of course lose your salvage retention rights.

When considering insurance for your 4x4 always check the windscreen damage cover in the policy. If you are traversing rough terrain and driving through wooded areas your windscreen could be scratched or worse. Some policies will include a separate excess for windscreen while others might not include an excess charge if the windscreen is only scratched and need repairing providing you go with an approved repairer.

4x4 off road insurance should also include legal expenses cover. However this might mean an extra payment. However it can be worthwhile having in case you should have some mishap when driving off road which could save you a great deal of money in legal fees which would otherwise have to come out of your own pocket. Legal expenses would cover not only the cost of the damage to the vehicles and property but also for injury.
